For the opening of the new Louisiana Children’s Museum in New Orleans, Peter Mayer tasked Spacejunk with developing the creative for their new broadcast commercial. The goal was to showcase a group of animated kids interacting with various museum exhibits.
Our team first set out defining the illustration style of the kids. Their level of “realism,” skin colors, and clothing styles we’re all factors that we pushed and pulled throughout ideation.
The final direction we went with was very organic and surreal, which helped showcase the individualism of each kid. From there, we developed a series of “mix-and-match” templates of body styles, eyes, noses, and mouths to make the character creation process a bit more efficient (we needed over 20 individual characters in total for this video), but also to give Peter Mayer the ability to create new, on-brand characters as needed.
Initial character sketches

Our illustrations served as a basis not just for the video, but for the entire launch campaign.
